August Teacher of the Month: Senzi Gqirana

WRITTEN BY Courtney Visser ・ 03 August, 2020

If there is one word to sum up Senzi, it's sunshine.

Ask anyone who has moved to a foreign country, the first few weeks of adjustment can be really hard! Now add the stress of a pandemic...I think most of us wouldn't have run the other way, not Senzi though. This guy embraced the whole process with a smile and unfaltering resilience. And for this reason, he is our August Teacher of the Month.

Senzi is from Johannesburg, South Africa, and has been in Shangai since March this year. He is currently teaching at our Yuanping branch.

What’s do you love most about life in China?
The convenience, all you need is your cellphone and you’re good to go.

What’s your go-to game in class?
Definitely mad lip... the students love it, get them to replace one word in a passage with something funny like banana, guaranteed giggles.

What has been your most memorable teaching experience so far?
Tony in J class shares his rice cake treats with teacher Senzi every Wednesday and refuses to take no for an answer, that tiny gesture makes my week.

Word of advice for new teachers coming to China:
At some point, you’re gonna get lost, just smile and ask for help.
