Teaching English abroad has grown in popularity over the past few years, with more and more people deciding to make career changes or take a gap year after college. Every person has their own reasons for choosing to make the life changing decision to relocate to a different country to teach, so we've compiled a list of reasons some of our teachers have decided to make the move to China!
1. Earn money while getting to travel:
China has some of the most amazing places to travel to and see. The Great Wall, Terracotta Warriors and the Avatar Mountains being three of the most popular but definitely not the only bucket list places to go. China is also a short flight away from other countries like; Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia, South Korea, Thailand and the Philippines. And the best part of it all is you get to see these amazing places while getting paid!
2. Experience another culture:
Being a tourist and living in another country are two completely different things. Living in China will give you time to not only explore more places, but to also gain an in depth experience into the country's customs, culture, history and traditions.
3. Meeting new people and making lifelong friendships:
Teaching English in China will not only give you the chance to meet local people, but people from all over the world. Working, travelling and living with people for your year (or more!) abroad means you'll most likely make friendships that will last a lifetime!
4. Making a difference:
Teaching is one of the most rewarding professions. Imparting your knowledge on to young minds and seeing how they develop and grow is priceless! The best part of a teacher's job is seeing your students master what they've learnt in class and see the sense of pride on their faces.
5. Gaining international work experience and skills:
The skills and life experience you gain will all be incredibly valuable if and when you decide to take the next step in your career. As a teacher you need to be creative, organised, and be able to think and perform under pressure. Living in a different country (especially one vastly different from your own) will show you are adaptable, open minded and determined. All of these skills and traits will make you stand out in the global job market.
6. Save money:
This is probably one of the biggest reasons why many of our teachers choose to teach in China. A great salary combined with low cost of living means you are bound to save some money during your time abroad!
7. Learn a new language:
Another great reason to move to China is to learn the language! It's a lot easier to pick it up when you are immersed in it daily and have infinite opportunity to practice!
8. To be a part of a community and create lifelong memories!
Your colleagues will become like your family while you live abroad and you are bound to make lifelong friendships and memories with them!
