Teacher Spotlight

May 2021 Teacher of the Month - Michelle Gosse

WRITTEN BY Courtney Visser ・ 21 May, 2021

We are so excited to introduce Kid Castle's first teacher of the month for this year!
Michelle is from Port aux basques, Newfoundland in Eastern Canada. She's been in Shanghai for three months now and works at our Changjiangxi school in the Baoshan district.

This is Michelle's third time living in China. Her favourite part about being here is learning about the Chinese culture and eating all the baozi (We agree!).

As a teacher, Michelle has a few games that are her go-to in her classes; one is what she calls "chair race". Where two students run to sit on one chair and answer questions. She also use dice games and for Bright Starter phonics (Kid Castle's new curriculum) she likes to play spelling steps to help improve her students writing skills, vocabulary and spelling.

We asked Michelle what her favourite teaching memory is to date but she could choose only one, "I have so many but I love my WK classes, I have taught them to be super polite (it's the Canadian in me). Before break I ask "whose water bottle is this?" and they answer "It's mine, thank you."..."
She also loves the amount of hugs and excited hellos she gets when her students come to class.

Michelle's top tip for new teachers coming to China is to "... learn some survival Chinese before coming. It's very helpful to speak with the parents."

Thank you Teacher Michelle and keep up the amazing work!
